Slang Meaning Finder
Decode internet slang, trends and Gen Z lingo before you put it in a caption. The top meanings first, with real examples. Spicy filter on by default.
Explicit or offensive meanings are hidden, handy during screen shares.
How to use the Slang Meaning Finder
- Type a slang word or phrase into the search box, or tap one of the suggested words under it, then press What does it mean?
- Read the Top meaning first; up to six meanings show in Urban Dictionary’s own order, each with an example and the month it was added.
- Tap a linked word inside a meaning to look that one up too, or press Copy meaning to copy the word, meaning and example together.
- Leave the Spicy filter on to hide explicit meanings, or switch it off to see everything Urban Dictionary has.
Good to know
- Urban Dictionary entries are written by its users, not editors. Read two or three meanings before you put a word in a brand caption, as the top one isn’t always what your audience means.
- If Urban Dictionary has nothing for a word, or nothing clean, the tool shows dictionary meanings from Wiktionary instead. These are usually more formal.
- The spicy filter works from a list of words, so it can now and then miss something rude or hide a harmless meaning. Your setting is remembered on this device.
- The page link changes to include the word you looked up, so you can send a teammate straight to the meaning.
- With nothing searched, Fresh slang shows Urban Dictionary’s words of the day, a quick way to spot new terms before they turn up in your comments.
Questions
What does delulu mean?
Delulu is short for delusional. It is usually said playfully about hopes or crushes that are a bit unrealistic, as in “delulu is the solulu”. Search it above to see how people use it in real sentences.
Where do the slang meanings come from?
Meanings come live from Urban Dictionary, written and ranked by its users. When it has nothing suitable, the tool falls back to Wiktionary (shared under CC BY-SA). Each meaning has a Source link to the original entry.
Is it safe to look up slang during a meeting or screen share?
Mostly, yes. The Spicy filter is on by default and hides meanings with explicit, sexual, violent or hateful words, and tells you how many it hid. It is a word list rather than a human check, so it is not perfect.
Why can’t I find a slang word?
Check the spelling or try a shorter form, for example “giving” instead of a whole sentence. If every meaning is explicit, the spicy filter may have hidden them all, and the tool will say so.
Is the Slang Meaning Finder free, and are my searches private?
It is free with no sign-up. Your search goes straight from your browser to Urban Dictionary, and to Wiktionary when needed, so those sites see the word. Samchive keeps your last few words and your filter setting only in this browser.
Should brands use Gen Z slang in captions?
Only when it fits your voice and your audience already talks that way. Check the meaning here first, since some harmless-looking words carry a second meaning. For other word ideas, try the Thesaurus.
