Good to know

  • You can type short forms like 12.4k or 1.2m, and commas such as 1,20,000 are fine too.
  • By followers, this tool calls under 1% very low, 1–2% low, 2–4% good, 4–7% great and 7% or more very high. By reach, each step is about twice as high.
  • Saves and shares usually say more about content quality than likes do, so watch the coloured split bar to see what is driving your number.
  • Compare posts of the same kind, such as reels with reels and carousels with carousels, as formats often perform quite differently.
  • Press Download CSV to keep your history in a spreadsheet. It is saved only in this browser, so clearing browser data or switching phones will lose it.

Questions

How is Instagram engagement rate calculated?

Add up likes, comments, shares and saves on a post, divide by your followers (or by the accounts reached), and multiply by 100. For example, 473 interactions on an account with 12,400 followers gives about 3.8%.

What is a good engagement rate on Instagram?

By followers, around 1–3% is common and anything from about 2% up is healthy, while smaller accounts often score higher than big ones. This calculator treats 2–4% as good and 4% or more as great.

Should I calculate engagement rate by followers or by reach?

By followers is the number brands most often ask for in collaborations. By reach shows how people who actually saw the post reacted, so it is usually higher and better for judging the content itself.

What engagement rate do brands look for in influencers?

There is no fixed rule, but many brands want to see a steady rate across several posts, not one viral spike. Saving your posts here gives you an average and a trend you can share in your Media Kit.

Why is my engagement rate dropping?

Common reasons are posting less often, a change in content type, or followers who are no longer active. Save each post here to spot the pattern, and look at whether saves and comments fall along with likes.

Is this engagement rate calculator free and private?

Yes. It is free, needs no login and never asks for your Instagram password. Your numbers and saved posts stay in this browser and are not sent anywhere.
